DRILLING WITH TOOL
Drilling of plastics. Traditional drilling with chip-removal and drilling with fingernail-shaped tool with extraction of the chip.
DRILLING WITH TOOL
Drilling of plastics is a delicate operation, since it causes the heating up of the machined component. The risk that the heat generated by the drilling damages the component is very high, since thermoplastics generally have a low thermal conductivity. Deformations, dimensional innaccuracy, cracks or even breaking of the component are the most common consequences of drilling processes wrongly designed. It is therefore necessary that the drilling is carried out with extreme expertise, especially if the hole is very deep.
The articles that we can drill can be produced by means of injection moulding, extrusion moulding, compression moulding, thermoforming, blow moulding, suction 2D/3D (2k) and rotational moulding.
The drilling with tool can be carried out by means of two techniques.
TRADITIONAL DRILLING WITH REMOVAL OF THE CHIPS
- chips are produced and later removed by a specific cleaning system
- tools to remove the chips are used
- recommended for hard thermoplastics
DRIILLING WITH FINGERNAIL-SHAPED TOOL WITH EXTRACTION OF THE CHIP
- it allows the extraction of the whole chip without leaving residuals in the article
- no cleaning cycle is requested
- special tools are used, that carry out the drilling with a single sharp motion
- recommended for semi-hard and soft thermoplastics
With the fingernail-shaped tool the device drills the article, extracts the disk of residual drilled material and, thanks to an electric sensor, checks that the extraction has been successfully carried out.
Among the articles drilled by the customized machines of GS Finishing Machines there are the following, listed as an example: engine clear-air pipes, engine dirty air pipes, ducts for the air-conditioning of the interior compartment, fuel filling pipes, tanks for liquids and various other components of the engine compartment and of the interior compartment.
